Herm graduated from Kemper Military College in Missouri where he earned his commission in the Army as an Infantry Officer, and Washington State University where he completed his Bachelor of Science with a focus in Biology and Chemistry.
 
With the Army, Herm served as an Infantry Basic Training Company Commander, and graduated from the Army's Ranger and Airborne Schools.  He was a part of the development of the new Stryker Fighting Vehicle and it's deployment in combat.

Herm's passion is all about teaching people about improving fitness and appearance through diet and exercise.  He has been involved with competing and preparing others for competition in bodybuilding for 14 years.  He has competed in 15 bodybuilding shows from 1993 to 2007 and has won 3 of them, including the 2000 San Diego Novice Championships, 2005 Sunshine Classic, and the 2006 Mid-USA Championships.
