Issue 17 of the Performance Menu has a complete nutrition and training template specifically for gaining functional mass. You can download a free copy (if you haven't already done so):

Thanks for the link, Greg. That was a fun read.
Because you were a co-author of this article, I was wondering, where did the format for the workout come from? What the reasoning for the Ab-Back Extension circuit, as opposed to just training one or the other?
Thanks

the format came from a synthesis of info collected by robb wolf's and my brains over the years. the strength cycle is based heavily on the programming practices of Mike Burgener (www.mikesgym.org).
the reasoning for the ab-back circuit is three-fold: 1, it forces minimal rest time during the hypertrophy cycles; 2, it's convenient in terms of time spent in the gym; 3, it's a chance to get a least a LITTLE metabolic conditioning into an otherwise metCon-devoid training cycle.
