Here (http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/metabolism/gary-taubes-berkeley-lecture/)is a link a lecture that author Gary Taubes (Good Calories, Bad Calories) gave at Berkely.

You may need to download Real Player Basic (http://www.real.com/realsuperpass.html) in order to watch it.
I especially like the way he refutes the notion that obesity is the result of too many calories - the old Calories In vs Calories Out debate. It starts about 35 or 45 minutes in or so as I recall.
Delta-weight-in-lbs = (Calories-In minus Calories-Out)/~3500
But - Calories-In and Calories-Out are not independent variables, and the equation says nothing about causality. Decrease calories-in and your metabolism can clamp down, causing calories-out to decrease even more!
Brilliant stuff.
